How it Works

What is Wegovy?

Wegovy is a well-known prescription drug that’s used to help aid weight management. It contains the active ingredient semaglutide, which is injected underneath the skin.

This medication works by regulating your body’s appetite – it is a GLP-1 receptor agonist that makes you feel fuller for much longer, which stops you from eating as much. Although it’s used for weight loss, Wegovy can also help you adopt better eating habits, which is great for everyone.

Is Wegovy Safe?

Yes, Wegovy is safe. This medication is safe for patients who meet the criteria and have no alarming health conditions that could stop them from taking the drug. It’s our priority to ensure each of our patients is suitable for Wegovy injections.



We have a specialist team who can help answer any questions you have before, during and after your treatment. Both the safety and efficacy of Wegovy have been established in multiple studies and trials – the SELECT trial showed no new safety concerns over four years. Your appointed clinician will be able to tell you whether Wegovy is appropriate for you.
Note - be sure to store your weight loss medication in the correct conditions, in temperatures between  2°C and 8°C. If your Wegovy pen appears discoloured, do not use it.

Similar to most medicines, Wegovy could potentially cause some side effects, such as:

• Nausea and vomiting
• Diarrhea and constipation
• Stomach pain
• Bloating
• Headache
• Dizziness
• Acid reflux

These side effects can vary from person to person but typically subside as your body adjusts to the drug.At Dr Frank’s Weight Loss Clinic, we spend time advising, supporting and guiding you through your weight loss journey. We can offer you a tailored Wegovy diet plan to not only minimise side effects but to help you achieve your goals.

Typically, this drug is only suitable for patients over the age of 18 with a body mass index (BMI) of 30 or above. It is also suitable with people with a BMI of 27 and above if you have a condition as a result of weight gain. The BMI criteria can be lower depending on your ethnicity.We prescribe Wegovy to patients who meet specific criteria; it’s licensed and approved for managing weight loss, and our patients have seen great results from using it.

You inject Wegovy once a week, gradually increasing your dose every four weeks. Prepare your dose, attach the needle, and then make sure the dose selector aligns with your prescribed amount. Then, select your injection site, whether it be your abdomen, thigh or upper arm - push the pen against your skin and inject. When done, place your used needles in a sharps container.
